Objectives
COX were appointed under a design and build contract to construct a new semi-clean room facility in a disused area of a building on the clients Northamptonshire site. The new facility was to be used for research and development in the semi-conductor sector of the communications technology industry. The facility would need to be sensitive to the clients' technical needs. Part of this was to utilise materials and construction methods that minimised the build-up of static electricity.
Challenges
Particular challenges on this project were working on a live laboratory site where noise, dust and vibration were to be minimised due to the sensitivity of operational equipment in the building.
The project involved installation of a new HVAC system, upgrading electrical infrastructure and installation of new systems, thermal fabric upgrades, new ceiling and floor finishes. Specialist extraction systems were required to workbenches to control the environment conditions.
