Objectives
COX were appointed to install 1 km of new footpath and upgrade existing roadways serving main access route into RAF Alconbury. Works included survey and investigation, road plaining, excavations, new engineered sub-bases, tarmac, block paving, street lighting, fencing and barriers.
Challenges
The construction site was working along side an active access route into a military base. Strategic traffic management was required to ensure the base access could function as required. Avoidance of existing utilities and services was necessary to execute the contract works along with protective biodiversity measures.
